National Service Scheme (NSS) camp was organized by Seventh-Day Arts and Science College, funded by Gujarat University during the period of 26th February to 3rd March,2023 at Sadra village, Mehamdabad taluka, district-Kheda.

NSS was established in 1969 with a vision of personality development of students through community service and as well as development of rural areas in India.

NSS unit has been introduced in colleges with an optimism of establishing a sense of social responsibility amongst students and inculcating values of self-disciplined and self-less education towards community development.

As a part of NSS activities, a 6 day camp was held by SDA at Sadra village between 26th February to 3rd March, 2023. Various social activities were held with a sole view of rural development and value education. We, being a part of the cultural committee, undertook various cultural activities in the village to promote interaction with the villagers and used the NSS platform to spread awareness about different social issues.

A team of 32 students, under the guidance of the vice-president of the college Mr. Ramesh, the NSS co-ordinator Ms. Punam Darji and one of the university’s professor Ms. Muskan Khatri were briefed and then were divided into a team of 5. The first event or task assigned to the students was to clean the school and the surroundings where they would stay for the next 5 more days. They cleaned the school, burnt the garbage collected, arranged their belongings and then everyone sat for the lunch. Taking the first step onto village, everyone of the NSS volunteers were filled with a gleaming sense of responsibility to do something and can be summarized with the slogan of “NOT ME NOT YOU BUT WE!”

Every morning of the volunteer began at 5:30 where everyone would gather in the school ground and get themselves ready for the exciting Prabhatferi which lasted for half an hour every morning followed by some physical exercise and some asans of yoga. After Prabhatferi every group was assigned different tasks like school cleaning, rooms cleaning, maintenance of bathrooms or say washrooms, cleaning of the mid-day meal area, etc. After completition of this task everyone left for some breakfast and some went to take a bath. Everyday a new task was assigned to the volunteers after the breakfast like going to the Panchayat house, doing survey in the village, a dairy visit, cleaning of the village areas and organising a medical camp etc. every day respectively.
